Discount Drug Stores Sponsors Assistance Dogs Australia

Assistance Dogs Australia is a national charity that trains Labradors and Golden Retrievers to help people with physical disabilities. These dogs are given free of charge to their recipients and help with tasks such as opening doors, retrieving dropped items, removing items of clothing and barking in an emergency.

Assistance Dogs make a dramatic difference in the quality of life for individuals with physical disabilities. Not only do they assist them physically, but these special dogs also relieve loneliness and social isolation, helping their owners integrate more with their local communities.

Discount Drug Stores Sponsors Free To Be Kids

Discount Drug Stores Head Office proudly sponsors two children through Free To Be Kids, Pinky and Reshma who live in an orphanage in Kolkata.

FreeToBeKids is a not-for-profit humanitarian aid organisation working to rescue, shelter and set free children who are facing extreme situations of abuse and exploitation

Staff fundraise regularly for the orphanage by selling books from the staff library and donating money in return for excess product samples. To date DDS HO has raised over $1000.

In 2012 DDS staff hope to travel to India to visit the Child Rescue and Development Centre to take part in workshops with children, English classes and hands-on grounds work.

Discount Drug Stores rides for MS

In June a team of 18 enthusiastic riders represented Discount Drug Stores at the Brissie to the Bay bike ride. This is an annual fundraiser for multiple sclerosis.

John Clark (DDS Director) and wife Sharyn, Casey Clark (DDS Professional Services Manager) and Brad Alder (DDS Business Development Manager) teamed up with long-term suppliers Beaudesert Times’ Mark Hodgson and Rob Brown.

The team raised $885 doing the challenging 50 kilometre route from Brisbane’s Musgrave Park to the bayside suburb of Wynnum.

Casey Clark: “We’re planning on going back for more in 2012, with an even bigger team.

“Some of us are already in training and looking out for more cycling charity events to get involved in.”

We invite DDS staff and owners to register their interest with us for future charity rides.
