Children's Parachoc Liquid Parrafin - 400mL

Children's Parachoc works by gently lubricating the bowel wall and softening the faecal mass. This makes the stool easier for children to pass and helps children achieve an ideal bowel movement.

Product Information

It promotes restoration of normal colon function. Contains 50% paraffin oil. Contains no sugar, lactose, casein, gluten, egg, soy, nuts or peanuts. Children's Parachoc has a pleasant Chocolate Vanilla flavour and can be mixed with cold milk, cold flavoured drinks, yoghurt or frozen into an ice block. Children's Parachoc is a gentle lubricant laxative. Unlike other laxatives it is not associated with side effects such as lazy bowel.
Every patient has their own individual dose requirement for Children's Parachoc. We suggest the following starting doses and then the patient must proceed to find their correct dose by either increasing or decreasing, in 5mL amounts, the dose of Children's Parachoc taken. This process is continued until they obtain the passage of a soft motion without the leakage of paraffin oil. 12 months - 6 years: 10mL to 15mL once a day 7 years - 12 years: 20mL once a day. Adults: 40mL once a day. Children's Parachoc should be taken once a day only. Allow 3-4 days for the recommended dose to start to soften and move the stool through the bowel. Increase dose by 5mL increments after 3-4 days if the desired effect is not achieved. If oil leaks into the child's underwear reduce dose by 5mL. Use Children's Parachoc for up to 6 months under the guidance of your doctor.
Always read the label. Follow the directions for use. If symptoms persist see your healthcare professional. Always speak with your healthcare professional when treating constipation. Drink plenty of water. Increase fibre in diet. Prolonged use may cause serious bowel problems or dependence. Do not use when abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting are present, or if you develop diarrhoea. If you are pregnant or breast feeding seek medical advice before taking this laxative.
Because Children's Parachoc is not a bowel stimulant, patients must be aware that it can take up to 4 days for a change in dose to work. Therefore the new daily dose must be maintained for at least that time to assess how effective the change is. Further alteration may be necessary, and similarly a 4 day period should be allowed to assess that change before any further alterations in dose are made.

After taking Children's Parachoc children must not lie down for at least two hours. This reduces the risk of the paraffin being regurgitated and inhaled into the lungs. Inadvertent inhalation of liquid paraffin can cause serious respiratory problems.
